Treating Alcoholism

Our approach

To treat alcoholism, Clinique Nouveau Départ – EHN Canada follows the Disease Concept philosophy, as defined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM). Clinique Nouveau Départ – EHN Canada offers patients solid, evidence-based treatment provided by a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, doctors, addiction counsellors, psychologists, social workers and nurses.

Understanding the importance of treating addiction as a chronic disease, Clinique Nouveau Départ – EHN Canada offers its patients follow-up treatment that lasts for a period of up to twelve months, placing emphasis on aftercare follow-up for the treatment of alcoholism.

How we can help you

Before the start of every treatment, the Clinique Nouveau Départ carefully assesses:

  • Your consumption profile
  • Your potential for withdrawal
  • The various co-occurring physical, emotional and behavioural conditions
  • Factors that help or hinder your recovery

This initial evaluation is accompanied by a complete medical check-up. The levels of care are tailored to your specific conditions.

What is Alcoholism?

Alcohol is the most frequently used psychoactive substance in the world. It figures prominently in our cultures and its use has been closely connected to the history of society. Alcohol, like all sedatives, hypnotics and analgesics, belongs to the category of central nervous system depressants.

Two program types are available

  • Understand your addiction as a disease
  • Understand how your dependence impacts your life and the people around you
  • Develop an abstinence and relapse-prevention plan
  • Manage relapse triggers and warning signs (stress, cravings, etc.)

Following this intensive period, weekly outpatient follow-ups are offered, including group and individual sessions. The group sessions are based on the principles of relapse prevention and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and allow patients to gain the skills they need to return to their respective living environments.

Throughout the entire treatment period, in addition to therapeutic treatment services, you will benefit from medical services and, when necessary, medication-assisted therapy. You will also benefit from random toxicological testing.
